Ep 26 – The Selfie Killer

In Zoey’s first True Crime episode after the College-Palooza, she takes us on a wild ride that is the life of Amanda Taylor, otherwise known as the Selfie Killer. A woman who was grieving over her husbands death, Amanda vowed to kill the man she felt was responsible, and then a couple others to experience the thrill.

But before that, Robin shares a Something Southern. She brings us back to St. Simon’s Island (home to Mary the Wanderer) and tells us about the current disaster happening there: a capsized cargo ship called Golden Ray has started leaking oil into the ocean.

CW: Suicide

Like I mentioned in the episode, I had a chance to look into the kinds of posts made by Amanda Taylor, a woman who dreamed of becoming a serial killer. While some of the posts were typical, edge-lord stuff, some were downright disturbing.

It is unfortunate that we often see sex and violence go hand in hand, and there are people who legit can’t tell the difference. So the women running in underwear with semi-automatic rifles isn’t too shocking to me. Disappointing, but not shocking. Also, love poems praising toxic relationships for being more “real” than healthy ones are posts I see all the time.

The things on Amanda’s page that really got me are the gifs that look like they’re from snuff films – videos of actual people dying. I had the unfortunate experience in 9th grade where my history class Edmodo (similar to Google Classroom) page was “hacked” by vile people who flooded the feed with videos of people dying and photos of corpses. Our teacher tried to tell us it was all fake, but we knew the reality of the internet.

The other things were the almost love poems written to school shooters on her page. That idolization isn’t something you can fake or pretend you’re not serious.

If you want, you can look at her page. It was a source, so I had to link to it. It’s below.
