Ep 16 – Bind Torture Kill, the story of the Dennis Rader, the BTK Killer

This episode is an accidental non-southern episode. Unfortunately, Geography is not one of Zoey’s strongest subjects and it came as a genuine shock when she learned Kansas was not actually in the south.

But that is okay! We’ll make it work and now Zoey has a list of states on her phone so she doesn’t make the same mistake again.

For our something Southern (that is also a little spooky) Robin tells us about the UFO Welcome Center in Bowman, SC just one hour from Haunted Hospitality’s home base. Robin also reads her favorite review so far.

This episode also features a promo from the podcast Shockingly Wicked! Go give them a listen (after you listen to this episode of course).

The story of BTK is a gruesome and detailed one, however Zoey does her best to keep it PG-13. Dennis Rader is a terrible man who tortured and killed 10 people between 1974 and 1991. He would write to the newspapers with poems and letters where he would go into detail on how he killed his victims.

But when he stopped killing in 1991, everyone assumed that he was either in jail or dead, so the case went cold. But Dennis Rader was caught and jailed in 2004. How was he finally caught? Listen to the episode to find out!

Whoops! Did you know that Kansas is not in the south? Despite having been there before, I certainly didn’t.

Well, to be fair, I did know that it wasn’t in the south, and if I had thought “is this state in the south?” I would have been able to think and realize, no. No it is not. However, if you don’t even stop to contemplate what you’re doing, you won’t notice your mistakes.

I think I was so blinded by the idea of doing BTK. He had been someone that I had heard of before and someone I wanted to learn more about. Like I mentioned in the episode, you could do an entire season of a rated R podcast on BTK.

If this episode leaves you wanting to learn more, look at my sources below and read through some. But warning: you may not like what you read.
