Ever been to a plantation and feel like something was just a little bit off? Not sure if its the history of the place, the knowledge of what happened there, or something more on the spooky side? In this episode, Zoey goes over the Ferry Plantation of Virginia Beach and the 11 spirits that are said to reside there.

Included in those 11 spirits is the ghost of Grace Sherwood, better known as the Witch of Pungo, who was posthumously cleared of her magic crimes. She was tried in the building and in the waters near the Ferry Plantation house, and her ghost is seen wandering the feilds.

A lot of spooks with a side helping of serious discussion, and you can say that there is something just a little bit off about the Ferry Plantation.

But before we get into that, Robin and Zoey sample some beignets from Cafe du Monde, LA, sent over from Robin’s family. Please note, if you can not handle the sounds of eating, you should probably skip the first 6 or 7 minutes of this episode.

What is there to say that hasn’t already been said in the episode?

The American South was founded on the exploited labor of black enslaved people, and there are people who still believe that there was nothing wrong with that. Others believe that has come and gone, there have been no lasting effects at all (sarcasm) and that we need to just forget it. However, those same people will argue against taking down a Confederate statue because that would be “erasing history”.

If you believe in ghosts, like I do, there is only one way to explain there not being more than one ghost of an enslaved person, and that is wishful thinking: they’ve finally left the place they were tortured for so long. But I’ve heard many stories of vengeful spirits, and if there is any spirit who deserves to be vengeful, it’s one of someone who died enslaved.

Not being able to find anything about a even slightly negative ghost experience makes me believe that either none of the ghosts are real, or that there is someone out there erasing history as it happens.
